Consistency is the whole game

Most small business accounts don’t fail from bad posts. They fail from no posts. Three strong weeks, then nothing for two months because the owner got busy. A social media manager makes consistency someone’s actual job, and consistency is what builds reach over time.

What we look for

We scout social media managers who have grown real accounts and can show it: the account, the results, and what they did. Our founder, Angela, managed social media and SEO for a Netherlands-based business for nearly three years, and our co-founder Jerome manages social media too, so we know what separates steady growth from busywork.

Protect your brand voice

Give your manager a short voice guide: three words that describe how you sound, phrases you never use, and five posts you love. Replies to comments are the part people read most closely, so agree on how to handle complaints before the first one arrives.

How we vet for this role

The skills test

The skills test asks for a two-week content plan for your business: post ideas, captions for five posts in your brand voice, one designed post, and replies to three realistic comments, including a complaint. We judge brand voice, visual quality and how they handle a public complaint.

It is one of eight checks, alongside a portfolio review, a past employment check, a live English interview, a paid trial task, a background check and an NDA. You interview the shortlist at the end.

  2. Week 2

FAQ

Questions about hiring a social media manager

Which platforms should a small business post on?

The ones your customers actually use, done well, instead of every platform done badly. For many US service businesses that means Facebook and Instagram, with LinkedIn for B2B. Your manager will recommend based on your audience.

Will a social media manager create the content or just post it?

Both are possible. Many social media managers write captions and design simple posts in Canva. For polished video or advanced design, pair them with a video editor or graphic designer.

How quickly will social media bring in leads?

Steady posting usually lifts reach within weeks, while leads depend on your offer and audience. Expect a clearer picture after two or three months of consistent posting.

What about sensitive industries like healthcare?

Posts need extra care: no patient details or identifiable photos without written consent, and no health claims you can't support. We set those rules in writing in week one.
